Greco 8′ Foam Surfboard 2.0 Review
Posted on December 16, 2009 by Srinivas Rao

After writing the first review of a Greco foam board, I emailed Greco surfboards to let them know about what I was doing here at Stoked for Life and they emailed me back and asked if I wanted to review the new and improved Greco Foam Surfboard 2.0. Hope you enjoy it.
“The 2.0” Specs:
- High quality materials- IXPE soft top, HDPE slick hard bottom
- EPS core only top manufactures use this material
- Triple stringer for extra strength
- Includes high quality upgraded leash and fins – tri fin setup
- Comes in white and blue
First Impressions: When I first picked up the board I actually thought it was a life raft because it’s fairly big and somewhat bulky. But an in the water test proved otherwise.
In the Water: I got in a fairly lengthy session with a really high wave count, about 10 or more waves which were fairly long rides. The conditions were phenomenal so it made for a perfect test day.
The paddle out on this board is a breeze, making it a perfect beginner’s board. It’s really buoyant and for any beginner getting used to the ocean is like adjusting to life in a new city. It takes time. Fortunately this board will make the adjustment much easier.
Catching waves on this board is also fairly easy since it’s a sizable board. One thing that amazed me is that the board was extremely responsive for a board that’s this big. I had a blast riding this board and would recommend it to any beginner.
Pros: This board offers some advanced features which is great. As I mentioned above it’s very responsive for a board of this size.
Cons: The down side to this board is that it’s not made for big surf. You won’t be pulling into any barrels with it. If the waves are fast and hollow I wouldn’t try using this board. It also suffers of the fatal flaw that all boards of this size seem to have, which is the challenge of doing a turtle dive. Maybe it’s just that I’m a kook
.
Conclusion:
I wrote a review of the Costco Wavestorm surfboard and the the new Greco 2.0 8’ Foam Surfboard is a much better board. While the $219 price point is higher than the Costco Wavestorm, Todd Greco is actually a surfer who shapes boards. With Costco, they are probably being churned out of a factory in China.
From my conversations with him a good amount of money and testing went into this board.

That’s a wack tail on that board, really pulled in. Not surprised it handles fairly well.
What’s the rail like?
