medicalplugss Earplugs Review: Docs Proplugs

The week before Thanksgiving I had my first serious surfing injury thanks to being a jackass and trying to catch waves when they were closing out left and right. When I came down the drop the board flopped, I wiped out and somehow either the next wave or the one that I flopped on cause the board to nail me in the side of the ear causing a ruptured ear drum. After a week out of the water, I decided to get back in, but not without ear plugs.

At first I bought the silicon plugs that cover your ear entirely. They were actually pretty annoying because I couldn’t hear out of one ear. I had to keep adjusting them, and it seemed like I’d have to buy new ones every week. A few days after using these I went over to my local surf shop, ZJ boarding house and asked the manager there which would be the best plugs. For abut 8 bucks more than the others, he showed me Doc’s pro plugs. He said that these were the ones recommended by ENT surgeons and they could be fitted to my ear.

In the Water:

Doc’s pro plugs are actually awesome because they keep water out, but allow air into your ear. They don’t ever feel like they’re going to fall out and after a bit of time you don’t even realize that you have them on.  I’ve used them now for about 2 weeks straight and I think that they are way better than the other options out there for earplugs made for surfers.  If you have are forced to wear earplugs, then these are definitely the way to go.

  1. Ouch! The burst ear drum sounds horrid. I always get ear ache when I do a lot of underwater swimming so these would be great to that. Don’t take too much water on board when I’m surfing via my ears though – most seems to go up my nose and them pour out for hours afterwards:) Nice….
